Chris Hey was not quite able to match last year's performance but he continued his dominance at the Ashley Forest rally sprint all the same.

The Mosgiel driver claimed his 11th consecutive title in the unlimited two-wheel-drive class at the event in Rangiora on Sunday.

Hey had a fastest run of 1min 02.49sec over the 1.7km course, just 0.34sec slower than the record he set last year.

However, it was still nearly 10sec faster than second-placed Paul Mullen.

He was helped by 14-year-old daughter Jorja, who was his co-driver this year.

In recent years, Hey has alternated between her and 13-year-old son Coby as to who is his co-driver at each event.

It was the 14th year he has competed at the event, all in the same Toyota MR2, which has a Nissan turbo engine.

The event had 60 drivers across all classes this year and consists of a knockout-style format.

All racers have four runs, before it becomes a straight elimination event.

Alongside winning the 2WD title, Hey also made it to the top eight of the overall competition won by former World Rally Championship competitor Alister McRae.

Other high-level competitors included Hayden Paddon and Sloan Cox.
