
In the opening quarter, Phys Ed C had ample opportunity to amass a lead, having more ball and creating more chances to shoot for goal.
With 24 attempts at goal, its shooters often failed to find the hoop, netting only 14. College's circle defenders were quick to snatch the often-rebounded shots at goal and then successfully secure the points through its shooters.
Phys Ed C led 14-11 at the break but it was only in the final 5min of the quarter that it appeared to have warmed into the match.
During the break, the Phys Ed C shooters opted to practise shots rather than rest with their team-mates.
In the second quarter, Phys Ed wing attack Nicky Paterson and centre Megan Parke upped their intensity on attack and defence, displaying the skills that made them former Otago representative players.
This, coupled with this a much improved Phys Ed C shooting circle, found College hesitating and exposed its inexperience.
College's circle defenders were not helped by its wing defence and centre often going offside into the circle and giving the ball to the Phys Ed C shooters.
College trailed 21-31 at half-time and looked to be facing a large defeat if changes were not made.
With College making five changes to its combinations on-court coach, Alf Saunders looked determined to change his team's fortunes.
College opened strongly in the third quarter. Injecting experienced Julie Soper into goal shoot had an immediate positive effect to the College's attack line.
College went goal for goal against Phys Ed C but never looked like closing the 10-goal deficit and went to the break 36-47.
In the final quarter, it was the skill of useful Phys Ed C goal defender Kirsten Scully who added value. She tightened up the defensive effort in the College shooting circle and proved difficult for the College shooters to contain.
Scully more often than not came up with the ball and she followed this up by driving the ball through the mid court on attack, linking well with Paterson at wing attack.
Not to be outdone, Phys Ed C centre Parke contributed some well-timed intercepts in the mid court.
Phys Ed C finished with a flurry, winning the final quarter 16-14.
All other premier matches were rescheduled, due to the school holiays.
