An Otago trio was among the medals at Lake Karapiro over the weekend.

Lucy Matehaere, James Munro and Zoe MacClure claimed nine medals among them at the national canoe racing championships, four of those going to Matehaere.

She clocked 2min 01.08sec to secure silver in the open women's K1 500m which was missing a handful of Olympians including Lisa Carrington.

A bronze in the K1 200m followed on Sunday. She beat close trailing competitors in both races.

She combined with Samalulu Clifton to finish in 2min 03.71sec to win gold in the K2 500m by just over a second.

She was also part of the crew to win silver in the K4 500m.

On the men's side, Munro claimed two medals.

He finished in 1min 50.36sec to win gold by 3sec in the open men's K1 500m.

He was then just pipped by Ethan Moore, settling for a close silver in the K1 200m.

MacClure had a strong weekend in the novice grade.

She won silver in the K1 500m as well as bronzes in the K1 100m and 200m.
