Ramsden breaks record

New Zealand runner Maia Ramsden smashed the national women’s 1500m record yesterday and went within a whisker of Olympic qualification at a high-profile meet in Los Angeles.

Ramsden clocked a time of 4min 2.58sec to place 11th in the USATF Grand Prix meet.

It knocked more than two seconds off the former New Zealand record of 4min 4.82sec, set by Nikki Hamblin in Spain 13 years ago.

Meanwhile, New Zealander Will Stedman timed his run to perfection to claim the men’s 400m T36 gold at the Para Athletics World Championships in Kobe, Japan yesterday.
