One of the most over-used sporting cliches is that one pertaining to teams having "a good mix of youth and experience".
But it rang true for Dodgers this season as it claimed back-to-back titles with a sweep of Cardinals in the Champions Cup final at Ellis Park on Saturday.
Dodgers won the first game 9-6 and the second 7-4 to complete the club season.
Much of the attention this summer has rightly focused on the young guns, particularly rising star Ben Watts and his younger brother, Cameron.
But there have also been regular contributions from Dodgers veterans such as Jamie Robinson and Wayne Sangster, a point stressed by coach Aran Bailey.
"Our younger guys have stepped up consistently. Guys like Ben Watts have really progressed," Bailey said.
"But we've also had older players like Jamie Robinson continuing to do well. And Wayne Sangster has been around a while and keeps chipping in."
Cardinals went into the finals as the No 1 seed but Bailey said he was always confident Dodgers could win.
"We'd come through the second half of the season pretty well, and we were actually leading the post-Christmas competition."
Robinson, possibly playing his last season, gave Dodgers the perfect start to the early final with a home run in the first inning.
Pitcher Ben Watts retired the first six Cardinals batters he faced and then showed his talent with the bat, clearing the fence in the third inning.
The Cardinals batters came to life in the third inning and it was 4-4 going into the fourth and 5-5 going into the fifth. Dodgers scored twice, Cardinals pulled one back, and then Ben Watts and Robinson both scored to seal the win. Watts senior added another home run in the second game, but Simon Maole replied with a long shot for Cardinals, and it was 3-3 going into the fifth.
The crucial inning was the sixth, when Ben Watts, Sangster and Andrew Wilson all scored to lead Dodgers to victory.
