Throttles wide open

Racing across the Upper Waiau River in a time trial near Te Anau on Saturday are driver Steve Rapsey and navigator Adam Clement, of Ashburton.

The time trail and a tech check were the first stage of the New Zealand Jet-boat Marathon, which runs over multiple legs on various lower South Island rivers this week.

Two more legs took place at Waiau River yesterday. Legs would take place at five other rivers, finishing at the Matukituki River on October 23.
