Eric's Legend at Winton

Eric's Legend, winner of the Sires' Stakes heat at Forbury Park last Thursday, has been entered for the 3yr-old race at Winton on Sunday.

He is among seven horses entered for the programme of mile races by Rolleston trainers Mark Purdon and Grant Payne.

Others are Mercurio, Joyfuljoy, Texas Hold Em, Tricky Woman, Almost a Christian and Amakudari.

Mercurio won a Sires' Stakes heat at Addington on October 3. He is in a race against older horses.

Joyfuljoy was a first-up winner for the stable at Oamaru on September 21. She has been unplaced in a subsequent start.

Texas Hold Em has a win at Addington and a third in two starts back from a spell. Tricky Woman has been placed in her last five starts. Almost A Christian finished fifth in the Sires' Stakes heat at Forbury Park.

Amakudari, a 4yr-old Village Jasper-Next Choice mare, qualified in 3.05.8 at Ashburton on September 30.

Lavros Jasper, winner of eight races including the Gore and Roxburgh Cups in the 2006-07 season, has been sold to the United States.

Myron, who has not raced since he won at Alexandra Park in September, 20006, has been exported to Australia.

The Make A Deal 8yr-old won 11 races when trained by Pukekohe part-owner Alan Fausett.

Southern Boy is now trained by Graham and Paul Court after being bought by Bob McArdle, of Christchurch. Southern Boy won three races when trained at Invercargill by Colin Devery and two when trained by Myross Bush part-owner Noel Cunningham.

Alamosa, winner of the Toorak Handicap on Saturday, has the Cox Plate as his next assignment on the wish of his owners, AAP reports. His trainer, Mick Price, was keen to reserve Alamosa for the Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on November.

He considered that the entire is a handicapper rather than a weight-for-age performer.

Tobin Bronze (1967) is the only horse to win the Toorak Handicap (1600m) and Cox Plate (2040m) in the same year.

Craig Newitt will ride Alamosa in the Cox Plate after stablemate Pompeii Ruler went amiss when finishing second in the Yalumba Stakes on Saturday.

Size Can Matter firmed in favour for the $250,000 Platinum Paws Final at Addington on Friday night when he drew box three.

The Gold Coast-trained dog won his semifinal last Friday from box eight. He was a $1.90 favourite with the TAB when betting closed yesterday.
