Draw adds intrigue to 3-way clash

Tomorrow's Wyndham meeting is set to host clashes between smart 3yr-olds across its 10-race card.

Punters may have to wait until its last race to see the most enthralling of those battles when impressive last-start winners Pembrook Playboy, See Ya Write and Diamond Party go head to head.

Ranking the classy trio on talent is just one factor to assess when the trio start in race 10.

An intriguing draw scenario has put the pacers in positions that should have punters scratching their heads.

Pembrook's Playboy will start on the outside of the front line, and See Ya Write on the inside of the second row in the 2400m mobile event.

Diamond Party will start beside See Ya Write from barrier 2 on the second row.

See Ya Write looked to have landed a horror alley in his first start for the season at Ascot Park last month.

Soon after the start, leading reinsman Blair Orange had turned it into a winning one when getting the 3yr-old to the lead early in his debut.

See Ya Write created a big impression by going on to beat a quality maiden field by four lengths.

Though impressed with his horse's victory, trainer Des Baynes is not getting carried away with the hype around the win.

"That was a field of maidens that he beat, so he will need to step up.

"All I can say that is the horse is fit and well and doing everything right."

See Ya Write has progressed well since his victory, though it appears he saves his best for race day, rather than track work.

"He seems to be OK. I haven't done a lot with him; he seems to be a wee fella that steps up on race day."

Baynes' main concern is that See Ya Write's second-row draw may not prove to be as advantageous as in his last start.

This time, See Ya Write follows out American Mac, who has been starting his recent races from the unruly.

Pembrook's Playboy and Diamond Party would be quick to capitalise if See Ya Write were stuck in traffic.

Diamond Party reeled off smart closing sectionals to win her maiden at Oamaru by four and a-half lengths.

Pembrook's Playboy made it two wins from two starts for the season with a regulation passing-lane victory at last month's Riverton Cup meeting.

Another intriguing clash of 3yr-olds is set earlier on the card for smart 2yr-olds of last season Stylish Memphis, Pearl Harbour and Total Diva.

Stylish Memphis and Pearl Harbour will have their first 3yr-old starts in the 1609m race 6 after racing at the Harness Jewels.

Stylish Memphis ran a creditable fifth behind Sweet On Me in the 2yr-old fillies final.

Pearl Harbour was a non-factor in the race from barrier 12, finishing 10th.

Both fillies have looked smart in winning prep-runs ahead of their returns.

Pearl Harbour ran her last 800m in a smart 56.7sec to easily win a Winton workout last week.

Stylish Memphis clocked a 57.8sec last 800m when winning a Rangiora trial late last month.

Total Diva goes into race 6 after producing a strong finish to win at Ascot Park on Thursday.
