Leading apprentice Jasmine Fawcett will attempt to hunt down her season's goal of 50 wins at Timaru today.
The Matamata rider sits on 49 wins this term and has six rides to reach her target.
Fawcett has been riding so well this season she had to extend her goal.
"My goal for the season was 30 winners and I have outdone that and set a new goal of 50 and I have two more meetings to make that happen.
"Hopefully [today] is the day. I am going to put my all in."
Fawcett won eight races last season before charging up the apprentices' ranks to sit second on the national premiership behind Sam Weatherley.
The 24-year-old has her sights set on even more winners next season.
"One of my main goals in the new season would be to ride in a group 1."
Fawcett rates Locally Sauced in race 9 as her best chance to help her reach her 50-win target.
"He has previously won a few races in the South Island and in the North Island he has been racing in quite good company and I have got a good draw to get a good economical run and he's got no weight."
Locally Sauced has trekked south from Waiuku for today's rating 85 race over 2100m for trainers Grant and Tana Shaw.
Race rival Gentil Tonton is in a similar position to Locally Sauced. The horse has transferred from Cambridge trainer John Bell's stable to John Blackadder's Rangiora barn.
Gentil Tonton has competed in much stronger North Island events and last ran in the group 3 Rotorua Cup.
Kings Pal looks the only danger to the two ex-North Islanders.
Jumpers Speedy Jax and Go Go Gonzo look to be using the race to get ready for the Grand National carnival.
Omar is another strong winning chance for Fawcett in race 4, a rating 65 contest over 1200m.
The Michael Daly-trained galloper has won on his home track before and is well placed to win again.
"He has been knocking on the door and he has won at Timaru, so he is a big chance," Fawcett said.
"My only concern was the weight, but we have 2kg so he is down to 57kg so that is pretty even and he has a handy draw."
Stumblin In, a dual acceptor in races 5 and 8, is another leading chance for Fawcett today.
