Gear changes get results from trotter

Gear changes helped Oamaru trotter Playboy Prince get his manners back in check at his home track's trials yesterday.

The Colin McKay-trained and driven trotter was in his favoured front-running role when winning a 2000m heat.

The horse never put a foot wrong throughout the race - a vastly contrasting performance from what he has shown in recent starts.

McKay added an overcheck and undercheck to the 7yr-old's gear, which immediately resulted in turning his manners around.

Playboy's Brother will now be targeted at the Central Otago circuit, the trainer said.

The latest product from the famous Kenny breed of trotters showed she is ready to go to the races at yesterday's trials.

Kenny's Dream, a 3yr-old by Dream Vacation from One Under Kenny, trotted to an easy three-length victory yesterday.

The filly would be aimed at the Gore meeting on December 27, when she would attempt to become the fourth winner for her 11-win dam, trainer Phil Williamson said.

Williamson-trained stablemates Monty Python and Alderbeck showed they were on track for Saturday's Addington meeting by going to the line together in yesterday's fast-class heat.

After coming from well off tearaway leader Stylish Duke, Monty Python won comfortably with Alderbeck finishing hard on his back without being pulled out.

The pair will clash with the talented but erratic Harriet Of Mot in a free-for-all mobile trot over 2600m on Saturday night.

Doc Seelster, who was narrowly defeated by Hundie at Oamaru late last month, won yesterday's maiden mobile pace.

The horse will start in an even field at Winton on Sunday.

Doc Seelster is trained and driven by Daniel Reardon, who has recently moved his stable to Waikouaiti.

Millwood Charity gave his connections hope the 61-start maiden could eventually win a race by taking yesterday's maiden pacing standing-start heat.
