Havehorsewilltravel to being northern campaign

Forbury Park trainer Darryn Simpson has done as the name of his emerging trotter, Havehorsewilltravel, suggests.

The 4yr-old will have the second start of his campaign in a rating 40-55 race over 2700m at Alexandra Park tonight.

Havehorsewilltravel was a brilliant winner when produced for his fresh-up run at his home track in June.

Simpson has cited a lack of good racing opportunities and the lure of the rich Alexandra Park stakes as the main reasons for sending his Angus Hall trotter north.

Havehorsewilltravel is in the care of trainer Brent Mangos, who will drive the horse in his northern debut.

The squaregaiter will clash with a field largely made up of more experienced horses.

The consistent Kay Cee looks the hardest for Havehorsewilltravel to beat.

Mangos will start two horses in his own colours tonight in Gladamare in race 5 and Bare Knuckle in race 7.

Bare Knuckle will be having her first start for the trainer-driver in tonight's feature 2700m handicap pace.

The 5yr-old has not started in New Zealand since running seventh behind Elle Mac in the 3yr-old fillies' Sires Stakes Championship at Alexandra Park in December of 2017.

Bare Knuckle clashes with a high-quality field of pacers headed by the back markers and half brothers, Dance Time and Check In.

Dance Time will have his first start in New Zealand in more than a year after campaigning in Australia recently.

Both Check In and Dance Time were ready to race earlier in the winter before illness struck several of trainer Steve Telfer's horses.

Neither has had a trial or workout before their resumptions in tonight's race.

Recent race fitness could also be a factor in the Ball Of Art's chances.

The Barry Purdon-trained pacer has not raced since scoring back-to-back wins in March.

The pacer faces a big step up in grade tonight and Purdon is hopeful the horse will measure up.

The trainer said how the horse handled his first standing start was the most important factor in tonight's race for Ball Of Art.

"As long as he steps away good, that will be the main thing - he has at the trials, but that will be the telling factor for him.

Purdon has a strong team of five horses entered at tonight's meeting.

Sole Ambition looks one of his best winning chances in race 3 for junior driver Nathan Delaney.

"He was a little bit unlucky at Cambridge last week and he got home good.

"He has trained well for [Friday] night."

Purdon starts the consistent Sunny Glenis in race 4, tonight's feature trot over 2700m.

The 6yr-old ran home well when fourth behind race rival CK Spur in most recent last start at Alexandra Park.

"She has been racing well and she is nice and bright going in to this race."

Purdon will give Henry Hu his first start in maiden company tonight in race 8.

The 4yr-old, who has drawn barrier 1, goes into the race after winning two trials recently.

"He has drawn well for his debut; he should be around about them. I expect him to go pretty well, really."

Purdon also starts Mohs Em Down, who has also drawn barrier 1, in race 5.
