Roger James, the Cambridge trainer, will make a decision tonight whether he will start He's Remarkable at Te Rapa tomorrow or Newcastle on Wednesday.
He's Remarkable is booked on a flight from Auckland to Sydney tomorrow.
"I would prefer to get him to Australia but the weather pattern at Newcastle was not that good so I paid up at Te Rapa," James said.
"There has been an improvement in the weather and I will make a final decision tomorrow [Friday] night."
Corey Brown has been booked to ride He's Remarkable in the group three Newmarket Handicap (1400m) at Newcastle.
He's Remarkable has the minimum of 52kg in the $A2 million Doncaster Handicap (1600m) at Randwick on April 21.
Craig Grylls has been declared for the open 1400m at Te Rapa.
He's Remarkable has not raced since he was relegated from first to second in the Railway Stakes (1600m) in Perth on November 19.
James said he would watch the Alister Clark Stakes at Moonee Valley tonight and the Randwick Guineas tomorrow before deciding on the programme for Silent Achiever, winner of the New Zealand Derby.
"I will have a look at the Australian races and decide if she will take on the colts and geldings," James said.
"She had a quiet week after the Derby and she is very sharp." The original intention was for Silent Achiever to race next in the Vinery Stakes for fillies at Rosehill on April 7.
• New Plymouth trainer John Wheeler is confident he will have a team for the Oakbank Easter meeting after an incident last weekend when his horses were let out of a paddock and careered along a road.
The incident occurred near Masterton. Six members of the stable were resting after competing at the Castlepoint beach races.
The horses wore their shoes very thin and jarred up as the result of galloping for several kilometres on the shingle road. One of thehorses, Banna Strand, lost part of his hind hoof.
"Banna Strand is still sore but Tobuggie Nights, Seeking The Silver and Thomond Park are 100% after being badly jarred up," Wheeler said. "I haven't been able to do anything with Evathreestep." Papa Don't Preach was the other horse involved.
"I have still got three weeks before going to Australia and I am hopeful of taking at least four horses." The team will be accompanied by Cape Kinaveral from the Rogerson stable.
Wheeler said police informed him the chance of charges being laid was minimal because of the standard of proof required.
