Informant is back in the stable of Lisa Latta for a return to racing at Washdyke tomorrow.

The Stravinsky gelding, who has not raced since February, won first up for Latta at Otaki in December 2010. He had his other win at Waipukurau, when trained by Peter Hurdle at Awapuni.

• Michael Pitman, the leading South Island trainer, bought two yearlings at the Magic Millions select sale on the Gold Coast last week. He paid $90,000 for a Redoute's Choice-Ellicorsam colt and $13,000 for an O'Reilly-Illustre filly.

The pair were offered by the Willow Park Stud, Scone. Pitman has syndicated both horses, who are due in Christchurch tomorrow.

Ellicorsam won the group one Swettenham Stud Stakes in Adelaide. Illustre is a half-sister to Primus (a group three winner) and a three-quarter sister to Pentastic (Craiglee Stakes).

Pitman has won 69 races this season and is the leading South Island trainer by a wide margin.

He is third on the national list behind Jon Sargent (94 wins) and Kevin Myers (72).

Milo and El Chico have returned to work with Pitman.

• Lisa Whelan, the Kevin Myers apprentice, broke her collarbone when the Myers-trained McCulley fell on the home turn in the hurdles at Warrnambool on Tuesday.

Whelan is in Ballarat looking after a team of horses for Myers.

Whelan said last night she was likely to be sidelined for a month to six weeks.

She intends staying in Australia for a least another week.

• In an unusual occurrence yesterday there were two deadheats for first at the same race meeting.

Brad Peterson, the Cambridge trainer, featured on both. Jason Collett was involved in one of the outcomes and his sister Natasha in the other. The Peterson-trained Catchitifyoucan deadheated with Princessabeel, ridden by Jason Collet, in race 6.

The Peterson-trained Let's Be A Star could not be separated from Cops 'N' Coyote, ridden by Natasha Collett, in race 8.
