Racing: Monifieth Winton choice

Monifieth is trained in Canterbury but his two wins from as many starts have been in Southland and he could extend that record at Winton tomorrow.

Monifieth and stablemates Hot Toddy, Golden Bomber and Supreme Mach are racing at Winton for the West Melton trainer Ken Barron.

The 2yr-old Supreme Mach, a first-up winner at Rangiora, is in a non-totalisator race.

Monifieth has not raced since he won twice at Invercargill in December with Clark Barron the driver. He has had two workouts and a trial in a fresh preparation. He won a workout at Motukarara on March 12.

Biddy Bid, the six-win trotter, is now in the Woodend Beach stable of Greg and Nina Hope.

The 9yr-old mare had her most recent win at Addington in June last year when trained by Robert Butt, who is now in Melbourne.

The 3yr-old filly Lotalov led for most of the way to win comfortably against older horses at Addington last night. The daughter of Love You and Swyncombe (an unraced Sundon mare) is booked to travel to Auckland on Monday with other members of the Paul Nairn stable.

Sydney jockey Corey Brown was suspended for six meetings after admitting careless riding at Canterbury yesterday.

Brown elected to start his ban after the Australian Derby day meeting at Randwick today which means he will miss the Doncaster meeting next Saturday.

He will be able to resume riding on Sydney Cup Day on April 28 when he is set to partner Rangirangdoo in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Permit in the Sydney Cup.

Hay List has injured a knee.

He underwent surgery for colic last Friday.

Scans on the injured knee will be sent overseas for analysis.

So You Think, the dual Cox Plate winner, will stand at Coolmore Stud, Australia, in the spring.

Coolmore secured a controlling interest in the horse after his second Cox Plate win in 2010. He was transferred from Bart Cummings to Aidan O'Brien in Ireland.

His European wins include the Tattersalls Gold Cup at The Curragh and the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown.

He is expected to have one or two more starts before he is retired.

Coolmore will also introduce new international sires to Australia in September - Uncle Mo, Musir and Zoffany.

United States horse Uncle Mo is a Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner, Australian-bred Musir was the champion 2yr-old in South Africa in 2009 while Zoffany was also a group one winner in Ireland at 2.

Gio Ponti, the winner of seven group one races, will stand at Arrowfield Stud in the Hunter Valley this spring.

Trained by Christophe Clement, Gio Ponti is a three-time Eclipse Award winner in the United States and his seven group one wins were between 1600m and 2000m.

Gio Ponti is the best-performed son of Tale Of The Cat, the sire of 74 stakes winners including southern hemisphere group one winners Glamour Puss, Gathering and Tell A Tale.

He is serving his first book of mares in Kentucky.
