Phil Williamson: ''We were really happy with what we ended up with. There was a bit of a surge at the end which got us a few more winners, but when you get around the 40 mark when you're only running in two or three races on the card, I'm happy with it, for sure. Monnay's efforts have been amazing really. In today's modern racing, it's hard enough to win off any handicaps, let alone the ones he's been coming off.''
THIS SEASON
''We'll be very similar [in numbers] to what we've been doing. I say I'm phasing down as I'm getting older, but we've still got a number of horses to work through that have been bred and also owners have bred a few more, so we won't be taking on new clients, as such. We'll work through the ones we've got. Maybe we'll be down one or two, but there won't be much change in numbers.''
DEPARTURES
Jag's Invasion has gone south to be trained by Williamson's son, Nathan, at Ryal Bush because of the swimming pool Nathan has at his disposal at the training establishment owned by Ben and Karen Calder. Several others are probably getting near their mark, like Miss Pegasus. Williamson said the daughter of Rowe Cup-winning mare Merinai could probably win one or two more before heading to the broodmare paddock.
3YR-OLDS TO WATCH
''I would say Brads Kenny would be the pick of them. He's a little fellow, but he's got a bit of ability. I'm thinking that he could be a nice enough little horse with the family behind him. He's only had a couple of trials, but he's shown the family ability. He's got a lovely gait so I'm expecting him to be going pretty good, but how good that's going to be will come down to his racing attitude. Springbank Eden is another one coming back that's already won a race as a 2yr-old. He's a nice enough horse. He's still spelling at the moment and will be due back and, hopefully, ready to race around Christmas time.''
2YR-OLDS TO WATCH
''We broke in a couple of yearlings here that do look good. But whether they can run at 2 is another thing. There's a half-brother to Springbank Sam that we like [Sam Galleon] - he's promising, but if he's promising and up to racing the class 2yr-olds remains to be seen.''
HORSE TO FOLLOW
''I'd have to go with the proven, so I'll go with Father Christmas. He's a progressive horse so I think he can go another grade or two. Whether he's good enough to get to the Jewels quality, we'll have to see. He's definitely going to have to step up more but he's a promising horse. He's having a six-week break now and then he'll come back in and start on a three-month programme towards racing. Hopefully, Father Christmas will race at Christmas time!''
