The average was maintained at $25,325 and the clearance rate improved to 85% on the second day of the premier sale of standardbreds in Christchurch yesterday."Again, a very good day," Rachel Deegan, a representative of auctioneer PGG Wrightson, said.
The average for the first day was $25,321 compared with $28,646 for the first two days last year.
The clearance rate was 77% on the first day.
The top price yesterday was $150,000 for a colt by Christian Cullen from Champagne Princess bought by Emilio and Maria Rosati, of Sydney.
The colt was offered by Jack Smolenski, and Barrie and Sue Morris, of Weedons.
The Rosatis are in the construction business and have horses trained by Neil Day.
The colt is the second foal of Champagne Princess, the winner of 12 races for Smolenski.
Tony McGrath, of Sydney, paid $105,000 for a colt by Rocknroll Hanover from She's Mighty, thus a half-brother to Mighty Cullen and Likmesiah.
He was offered by Debbie and Chris Smith, of Myross Bush.
Gareth Dixon, the Clevedon trainer, paid $82,000 for a Christian Cullen-Spirit Of Beth filly offered by Grant Dickey, of Christchurch, Ed and Mrs Wardwell, of the Virgin Islands.
The filly is a half-sister to United We Stand and Victory Spirit.
Phil and Bev Williamson, of Oamaru, sold a colt by Pegasus Spur from One Under Kenny for $75,000 on Monday.
