Tim Butt disqualified

Prominent harness trainer Tim Butt is set to appeal a six-month disqualification handed down to him in Sydney on Tuesday.

His brother Anthony has taken over the West Melton stable and will begin his training career at Addington tonight.

Tim Butt was found guilty of presenting Raglan to race in the Miracle Mile last November at Menangle with arsenic in the system of the horse.

The stable Anthony will inherit for the next six months includes Hunter Cup winners Stunin Cullen and Choise Achiever, Raglan and Vulcan the three-time group one winning trotter of last season.

"I will be keeping things ticking over until Tim gets back," Anthony said.

Tim Butt will have to apply to New Zealand harness racing authorities to even be allowed to live in his own house, since it is on the training property.

• Harness trainer Barry Purdon trained his first thoroughbred winner yesterday at Pukekohe.

The win came with I'm Maveric, who led throughout in the hands of Michael Coleman.

"That was great, it's very satisfying to finally get on the board," Purdon said.

He has two gallopers in work and two spelling after taking out a training licence last year, having earlier trained a few thoroughbreds a decade ago.

Purdon headed to Sydney straight after the race to campaign pacer Pembrook Benny in the $A200,000 Len Smith Mile on Saturday night.
