Canterbury rider Kylie Williams was back in the winner's circle for the first time in more than seven months when Black Label won at Wingatui yesterday.

And she did it in style when the Steve Tyler-trained mount sped away to win race 4 by five lengths.

The victory was Williams' first since winning with Ivan Kane at Riccarton in October of last year.

It took the jockey only a handful of rides to get back in the winning groove after recovering from a broken leg.

"It's good to get the duck off my back It's good to be back. You have your good days and your bad days."

Williams has had more than her share of injury troubles. She spent much of the 2015-16 racing season on the sidelines.

Those mishaps and her positive attitude mean she handles her time out of the saddle better most.

"I have been through a few accidents now, so I am pretty well adept at sitting on the sidelines."

Like her jockey, Black Label had spent time on the sidelines recently.

The 6yr-old had not raced since Williams rode her to an identical front-running win at Wingatui in June last year.

The Per Incanto mare also showed she had not lost any of her class in her extended injury break and impressed Williams with her win in in rating 65 company.

"She does it pretty easy. She is pretty natural at what she does. I just had to do the riding."

Williams was denied a winning double by the barest of margins when Queen Jetsun was denied by Whale Song in race 8.

The pair fought out a thrilling finish to yesterday's final event and Whale Song and rider Lisa Allpress just collared Queen Jetsun and Williams on the post.

Allpress was not denied a winning double. She also won race 3 with Exemplar.
