Two of Otago's top young rowers are set to pull on national colours.

Eva Hofmans and Ben Mason were selected for the New Zealand junior team on Saturday.

Both were named to junior quad crews.

They will spend time training in Cambridge with Rowing New Zealand, before leaving for August's Junior World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Bayfield High School's Hofmans gains her selection on the back of a successful season in the single sculls.

She claimed the region's only medal in the single at this year's Maadi Cup, a silver in the under-18 grade.

At the national championships she claimed gold in both the senior and club single sculls.

Meanwhile, Mason has starred for Otago Boys' High School throughout the summer.

He returned from the Maadi Cup with two medals, while being just edged for a third in the single sculls.

In China the Otago University men's eight claimed silver in its first International Universities Rowing Regatta of the year.

It was edged by China's Jimei University and finished ahead of third-placed Sydney University.
