Long-serving Zingari-Richmond loose forward Chris Bell beat the record for the most appearances in Dunedin premier rugby at the weekend.
He improved his haul to 272 games to surpass Erik Vaafusuaga’s tally of 271 games for Taieri and Green Island between 1989-2010.
Who knows what number Bell might finish on. Perhaps 300 games — it would be a nice round number.
Whatever he gets to, it is hard to imagine anyone slipping past the mark.
It has been a feat of extraordinary durability and determination.
But it is not the only record on the books which might take some beating.
Josh Casey’s season haul of 300 points in 2015 is a high benchmark.
Taieri had a potent backline that season and the talented first five-eighth shone during broken play.
He had a wonderful ability to ghost through gaps and proved his worth as a goal-kicker.
To put his achievement into perspective, the previous highest recorded season tally was the 260 points by Dunedin's Daniel Soper scored in 1997.
Casey also briefly held the record for the most points in a single game.
He notched 47 points in a 127-12 romp against Green Island in 2014.
University pivot Fletcher Smith usurped him at the top of the standings with 52 points when his side annihilated Zingari-Richmond 137-0 in 2016.
That is the highest score and biggest winning margin registered in the competition, and Smith was instrumental that day. He scored five tries, 12 conversions and kicked a penalty.
His five tries were not enough to snatch another record, though.
Ten players have scored six tries in a single game, but University’s Steve Reaney is the only forward to do so. The loose forward barged over for six in 1966.
University holds the record for the most tries in a single game. The students scored 20 in that enormous win against the Colours.
Hard-running Southern winger Steve Dunn crashed over for a season record 26 tries in 1997. The next on the list is University outside back Gavin Stark, who nabbed 21 tries in 2016.
The longest sequence of winning games is held by Southern, who strung together 38 wins between 1981 and 1983. It was unbeaten in 1982.
Zingari-Richmond holds the record for that other sequence. It lost 33 consecutive games.
