Dunedin went on a try scoring spree to score six tries to beat Green Island 44-17 at Miller Park.
Prop David Smart was in outstanding form and helped give Dunedin the edge in the scrums and flanker Hugh Blake was up in support and gained a lot of ball at the breakdown for Dunedin.
Dunedin moved into fourth spot and has a four point cushion over Alhambra-Union which is in fifth place.
Southern, Taieri and Pirates have consolidated their semi-finals spots but the fourth position is open for grabs.
Southern lead the Gallaway Trophy competition with 60 points and is followed by Pirates 44, Taieri 43, Dunedin 36, Alhambra-Union 32, Green Island 28, University A 27, Kaikorai 23, Harbour 21, Zingari-Richmond 0.
Alhambra-Union, Green Island and University A will be attempting to knock Dunedin out of the fourth spot in the final five rounds of Dunedin premier rugby.
The big upset of the day came from University A that played sensible rugby to beat Taieri 14-10.
Zingari-Richmond had its best game of the season when it was only beaten 15-3 by Pirates.
