Dunstan High School left it late to beat St Kevin’s College in Oamaru on Saturday.

Loose forward Josh Smith dotted down with a minute to go to give his side a chance of a win and Joe Cockburn iced it with the conversion to give the Alexandra side a 29-28 win.

The match was an even tussle and neither side could get far ahead.

St Kevin’s College led 19-12 at halftime and both sides worked hard as Dunstan came back into the match in the second half.

Smith managed to go over after the Dunstan forwards’ hard work in the second half was rewarded.

Smith teamed with Kohen Laing and Sam Chapman to provide an effective loose forward trio. Halfback Cyrus Hutchison was tidy throughout. Winger Beau Beadle scored a nice try for St Kevin’s and showed real pace. Flanker Ben Kay got through plenty of work.

In the other grade in the top section, King’s High School beat John McGlashan College 36-24.

King’s led 24-14 at halftime but McGlashan tied the game up at 24-all. King’s scored two tries in the final 15 minutes to win the game.

In a round where many of the games were close, South Otago beat Mount Aspiring College 23-19, Wakatipu High School beat Otago Combined 17-10 while Otago Boys’ High School second XV beat Waitaki Boys’ High School 27-24.

The match between Otago Boys’ High School and Southland Boys’ High School was supposed to be played midweek but was postponed to June 3 because of bad weather.
