The heavy rain experienced in the city this week has forced the Dunedin City Council to restrict the number of games that can be played on council grounds tomorrow.
Rugby and football play on grass grounds and are the sports affected by the water-logged grounds.
Practices on city grounds have been cancelled all week but the grounds have not dried out enough to have a normal day of sports at the weekend.
Rugby has been restricted to 19 grounds and football to 14 playing fields.
Most of the grounds have been restricted to just one game.
The exceptions are Carisbrook, Kettle Park No 2 and Hancock Park No 2, which can handle two games.
"It is devastating for us to have games cancelled at this time of the year," Footballsouth boss Peter Ritchie said.
"It is early in the season and we have a long haul of games ahead."
There are two ground changes in premier division 1 rugby - University A v Harbour is shifted from the University Oval No 1 ground to the No 4 ground, and Alhambra-Union v Green Island transferred from Miller Park to Peter Johnstone Park No 1.
The Otago Rugby Football Union's operations manager Richard Perkins said that, because of the ground restrictions, the union had to make a decision on what games could be played.
The only grades being played at the weekend are premier division 1, premier division 2, colts division 1, first XV and secondary schools under-18.
Rugby grounds being used at the weekend are Peter Johnstone Park, University Oval, Montecillo, Kettle Park, Hancock Park, Corstorphine, Bayfield Park, Opoho, Waikouaiti and Carisbrook.

Hockey and cycling use all-weather surfaces and, like sports using indoor facilities, are not affected.
