Green Island stalwart Sam Eriepa has reached a major milestone for the club, playing his 100th match on June 27 against Alhambra Union.

''It [was] a pretty big milestone.

''I ran out with my godson ... that was pretty cool,'' he said.

Eriepa's partner Rachae Lynch and his ''whole family'' were on hand to watch him lead the team out and a blazer was presented at a function after the match for his achievement..

The 25-year-old has played six years in the top side and 10 years in total at the club but started his post-schoolboy rugby at Kaikorai.

The midfielder recalled the surprise when he was asked to move from the forwards into the backs in his first game for the premier side against Southern in 2010.

''I played flanker right up until my first premier game and the coach rang me and asked if I would play second five.

''I was up against Luke Herden.

''He taught me a good lesson about playing premier rugby,'' he said.

One of Eriepa's most memorable moments was playing in halfback Dean Moeahu's 200th match at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Playing alongside All Black fullback Ben Smith and other representative players was also a highlight of his time with Green Island.

''[I got] some good advice from those guys,'' he said.

The future was bright for the club and he held it in high regard..

''They are really good for looking after players,'' he said.
