His last-minute dropped goal gave Taieri its first loss last season.
Fenemor returned from a long injury lay-off yesterday with another dropped goal to break the deadlock when the scores were locked together and give the students the breathing space to beat Taieri 32-22. He scored 17 points with a try, three conversions, a penalty goal and dropped goal to again be a nuisance for Taieri.
The other big upset yesterday came when Pirates beat Southern 22-19. Tim Cossens kicked 14 points for Pirates to become the third player this year to reach 100 points.
Peter Breen (Alhambra-Union) scored 23 points to be the fourth player to reach the ton.
Taieri still leads the Gallaway Trophy competition, but by only two points from Dunedin. The points are: Taieri 49, Dunedin 47, Kaikorai 40, Southern 39, University A 38, Pirates 32, Harbour 24, Alhambra-Union 19, Zingari-Richmond 10, Green Island 9.
University A 32
Taieri 22
Stephen Fenemor scored 17 points and directed play with authority as University A gained an upset but deserved win over Taieri at the University Oval.
Fenemor scored by all four methods and combined splendidly with halfback Nick Annear as the students inflicted Taieri's second loss in four days.
Taieri led 15-3 after 27 minutes but University A struck back with two tries to be level 15-15 at halftime.
University A hooker Sam Sturgess burst over under the posts straight after the break but Taieri tied the scores again when openside flanker Ben Kerr scored.
Fenemor regained the lead for the students with a neat dropped goal and they put the finishing touches on their victory when Tim Shearer scored from an overlap in the final act of the game.
University A defended tenaciously, and Fenemor and Annear chose their options well. Guy Schwikkard was solid at second five-eighth and Matt Faddes was a constant danger at centre.
Ben Nowell and Kori Rupene were strong in the Taieri midfield, and Nick Roulston was a livewire halfback, but the forwards were unable to gain any dominance.
University A 32 (Stephen Fenemor, Adam Heaps, Sam Sturgess, Tim Shearer tries; Fenemor 3 con, pen, dropped goal); Taieri 22 (Shannon Young, Nick Roulston, Ben Kerr tries, Hayden Parker 2 con, pen). Halftime: 15-15.
Dunedin 38
Zingari-Richmond 0
Dunedin was just too fast on the counterattack for a committed Zingari-Richmond side and won this game comfortably at Montecillo.
Dunedin led early from a lineout drive from a penalty, with No5 Richard Thompson scoring the first of his three tries. Liam Edwards then kicked a penalty after 20 minutes on a day in which he had a 100% record with the boot.
Hugh Blake, who had a standout 40 minutes for Dunedin, turned the ball over on the 22m and Tim Tolovae made a huge break. He found Kai Daniel, who drifted wide and put Sione Pulu over out wide.
Late in the first half, Dunedin scored two quick tries. The first was after a Brad Weber break. The Sharks set a ruck, the ball went wide and Thompson fell over the line.
Blake then made another turnover, Weber made another break and kicked ahead, the ball was regathered and fast hands created a try for Daniel.
Twelve minutes into the second half, Thompson got a rare lock's hat trick following a Dunedin maul, but the rest of the half was an exercise in tedium.
Tolovae was strong in the Dunedin midfield and Weber was electric. In the pack, Blake was good until he was injured late in the first half, and do not forget that man Thompson.
Dunedin 38 (Richard Thompson 3, Sione Pulu, Kai Daniel tries; Liam Edwards 5 con, pen), Zingari-Richmond 0. Halftime: 31-0.
Pirates 22
Southern 19
A Pirates side full of self-belief dominated Southern up front in an enthralling game at Hancock Park. There was an enormous roar when referee Mitchell Will blew for fulltime, the emotion of the victory for Pirates supporters clearly evident.
From the start, the Pirates forwards dominated. Props Craig Miller and Hisa Sasagi were particularly strong at the breakdown and in taking the ball up, and hooker Jake Maiono and locks Travis McIntosh and Jared Williams were strong around the fringes and in support play.
McIntosh scored the match-winning try and Williams was a key figure in the lineout.
The excellent service permitted the Pirates backline to flourish, with midfielders Finn Gormley and Jury Arthur proving a handful for the Southern defence. Winger Marshall Suckling provided unyielding defensive work.
First five-eighth Ben Patston scored all of Southern's points and kept the defence guessing with his option-taking. Locks Tom Franklin and Simon Knight were the best of the forwards.
Pirates 22 (Travis McIntosh try; Tim Cossens con, 4 pen, Marshall Suckling pen), Southern 19 (Ben Patston try; Patston con, 4 pen). Halftime: Southern 13-9.
Alhambra-Union 48
Green Island 22
Peter Breen was the master magician who controlled the game when Alhambra-Union scored six tries to beat Green Island 48-22 at Miller Park. His goal-kicking was masterful and he landed eight goals from eight attempts. He added a try to score 23 points.
Green Island drew first blood and led 7-0 after 10 minutes. This was the signal for Breen to change tactics and Alhambra-Union started to run the ball from all parts of the paddock. It scored four tries and 28 points in a 13-minute period in the first spell to lead 31-7 and take the game out of Green Island's grasp.
Green Island then had its time in the sun and scored three tries to trail by 12 points. Midfield back Hayden McBride scored two tries.
In the last 15 minutes, Alhambra-Union changed tactics again and attacked through the forwards to score two late tries.
No8 Graeme Cashmore and lock Michael Colville were the pick of the Alhambra-Union forwards.
The standout players for Green Island were props Terry Gough and Andre Clarke, No8 Hamish Finnie and halfback Dean Moeahu.
Alhambra-Union 48 (Colin Davies, Peter Breen, Graeme Cashmore, Michael Colville, Ben Traill, Liam Coltman tries; Breen 6 con, 2 pen), Green Island 22 (Hayden McBride 2, Sam Eriepa, Dean Moeahu tries; Dan Duke con). Halftime: Alhambra-Union 31-12.
Kaikorai 46
Harbour 3
It was a dreary first half but the game came to life in the last 42 minutes when Kaikorai went on the rampage against Harbour.
Kaikorai punished Harbour's mistakes to run in six tries to win the game at Bishopscourt 46-3. Five of Kaikorai's tries were scored in the last 16 minutes. Harbour's game was riddled with dropped passes, inept clearing kicks and a lack of direction in the backline.
Kaikorai fed off Harbour's mistakes and seized its opportunities with quick passes that allowed the backline to probe the gaps.
The best players for Kaikorai were halfback Willie Lawson with his quick passes, No8 Simon Grant and prop George Hendry. Cam Rutherford kicked seven goals and scored 16 points.
Kaikorai 46 (Tony Ensor, Danny van der Voort 2, Sam Cross, Bryce Morgan, George Hendry tries; Cam Rutherford 5 con, 2 pen), Harbour 3 (Joe Collins pen). Halftime: Kaikorai 10-3.
