Rugby: Hurricanes near full muster

The Hurricanes have named a near full-strength side to take on the Highlanders at Forsyth Barr Stadium tomorrow night.

The starting side has just the one change from last week's team which easily defeated the Blues.

Young prop Reg Goodes makes his first Super 15 start, after coming back from a shoulder injury which he picked up in a pre-season match.

Goodes, who was born in South Africa, has come off the bench in the past few games and impressed in the second half against the Blues. Jeffery Toomaga-Allen drops to the bench.

Tim Bateman has been named at second five-eighth after he came through training satisfactorily yesterday. He left the field early last week with a leg injury.

Andre Taylor

Tusi Pisi is included in the reserves, ahead of Daniel Kirkpatrick.

Andre Taylor will start at fullback and it will be interesting to see how he performs in comparison with Highlanders custodian Ben Smith.

Young halfback TJ Perenara will look to make an impact for the Hurricanes and will team up with another youngster, Beauden Barrett, in the inside backs.

The Highlanders had yesterday off and will name their side this morning.

The team will differ significantly from that which took on the Sharks, with players unavailable through injury.

The most intriguing selection is at openside flanker, where new addition Tim Boys has joined the squad to cover for injuries.

Highlanders coach Jamie Joseph may not be willing to throw Boys straight into action and could look to put Adam Thomson into the No 7 jersey.

Centre Tamati Ellison had suffered a tweak to the knee but he was running freely at training this week and could be a candidate to make the starting side.
