Stags sign Alaimalo

Highlanders outside back Solomon Alaimalo has signed with the Southland Stags for the 2021 Season.

Alaimalo, the older brother of Stags flanker Charles Alaimalo, has previously played with the Chiefs in Super Rugby as well as with Northland, Tasman and most recently Waikato in the Mitre 10 Cup.

The former St Bede’s College pupil was named at fullback for last night’s opening Super Rugby match for the Highlanders at Forsyth Barr Barr Stadium.

Alaimalo (25) has been an exciting player in the past though last year was a write-off because of injuries.

Southland coach Dale MacLeod is thrilled Solomon has chosen to play in the South.

“He’s a player that any union would be happy to sign up in a heartbeat ...

"Solomon will add a new dimension to our attack this season. It’s also a great opportunity for him to play alongside his brother, Charles, which is pretty special."

MacLeod said the signing has been in the pipeline for some time.

"To be fair, this is something I have been working on with Solomon ever since I started with Rugby Southland. It reinforces, to me, that we are starting to create an environment in the deep South that quality people want to be part of.’’
