Bay team banks another win

Anderson's Bay has won its fourth straight tie, defeating Otago Boys’ High School 9-0 in a make-up fixture from earlier in the season.

The match of the tie was the second men’s singles as George Alexander (Anderson’s Bay) came through in a marathon over Mat McCutcheon (Otago Boys’) 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Alexander came back from a 5-1 deficit in the second set to even it at 5-5 only for McCutcheon to hold on to win the set 7-5. The third set remained tight until the end but it was Alexander who

made enough returns against the traditionally strong McCutcheon serve  to prevail.

The other three men’s singles matches were all won in straight sets by Anderson’s Bay as Ryan Eggers , Junji Inojuchi and Mike Smith proved too much for Zane Gray , Angus Faulks and Trey Russell.

The top women’s singles match was an entertaining affair as Annalise Wilson (Otago Boys’) produced some impressive tennis and provided Ayesha Horley (Anderson’s Bay) with a very stern test as Horley had to rally from 4-2 down in the first set to win 6-4.

The second set remained as tight as the first and again it was Horley coming through with a 6-4 win to wrap up the match. In the other women’s singles match,  Angela Fitzgerald (Anderson’s Bay)  prevailed over Laura Hamilton (Otago Boys’). The doubles saw three straight sets wins for Anderson’s Bay as they were able to complete a sweep of the tie and take a commanding lead at the top of the points table with one round remaining before the mid season break.
