An abandoned car was fully ablaze by the time firefighters arrived at the scene in Christchurch this morning.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said a crew from the Spreydon station was called to the fire on Victors Rd in Hoon Hay about 6.50am on Friday.

He said no one was in the car and there was no damage to other vehicles or nearby properties.

He said police have been made aware of the incident but it is too early in the investigation to deem it suspicious.

Firefighters took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.

It comes after a stolen vehicle was found on fire on the corner of Station and Hoskyns Rds in Kirwee on Wednesday night. The incident has been deemed suspicious and police are investigating.
