City’s coastguard unit sailing new rescue boat ‘Moana Rescue’ home

Dunedin’s coastguard unit will arrive home tomorrow with new rescue boat Moana Rescue.

The unit has many people to thank for it.

Moana Rescue is one of 26 refitted America’s Cup chase boats returning to the water through a partnership between Lotto NZ, Coastguard NZ and Emirates Team New Zealand, supported by $9.8million in lottery funding.

Coastguard Dunedin crew members have been sailing the boat home from Wellington over the past four days.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
