Hundreds of Dunedin people came together to celebrate Pacific culture at the annual Moana Nui Festival.Organised by Pacific Trust Otago, the festival was held at Forsyth Barr Stadium on Saturday, giving Dunedin’s various Pasifika communities the chance to gather and share their cultures with the wider community.

The theme of this year’s Moana Nui festival was ‘‘Weaving the Generations Together’’, in celebration of the strength and influence of elders in passing down their knowledge to new generations.

The theme was based on the Niuean proverb ‘‘koe pulotu feaki he tau tupuna ke monuina hololoa e tau atuhau’’ — ‘‘when elders are wise, the generations that follow will prosper’’.

Pacific Trust Otago director of health Finau Taungapeau said it was exciting to see four generations of the city’s Pasifika communities in attendance at the festival.
