Signs of joy

Dunedin children’s performer Rainbow Rosalind is helped by siblings (from left) Wish (8), Betty (7) and Bash (5) Skinley to put the finishing touches to her new music video The Sign Language Song.

The three siblings, who are all deaf, star in the video that helps children learn short sign language phrases in an entertaining way.

The children said they enjoyed taking part in recording the video, and Bash especially enjoyed pretending to be an angel playing a trumpet.

The music video was funded by New Zealand on Air and will be released to coincide with New Zealand Sign Language Week which runs next week from May 9 to 15.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

You can help us continue to bring you local news you can trust by becoming a supporter.
