Woman dies after being knocked off mobility scooter

An 89-year-old Nelson woman has died after being hit by a car while on a mobility scooter on Thursday.

Police told The Nelson Mail that the woman was knocked off the scooter when she collided with a car reversing out of a driveway on Main Road in Stoke.

She was taken to Nelson Hospital with head injuries.

Senior sergeant Tony Bernards said investigations were continuing, but there was "still a lot of work to do" before deciding whether any charges would be laid.

Police said the woman's name would be released once her next of kin were notified.
