Canterbury's unique braided rivers and birdlife are the subject of a three-day course next month.

Braided River Aid (BRaid), a non-profit organisation aiming to preserve the indigenous features of New Zealand's braided rivers, runs courses supported by Environment Canterbury.

The next one will be held at the Glentui Conference Centre near Oxford on September 24 to 26, led by professional ornithologist John Dowding.

ECan backing keeps the course cost down to $120. Biodiversity team leader Jo Abbott said the braided rivers and their inhabitants were an integral and extremely important part of Canterbury's landscape.

Anyone interested in the course should email BRaid secretary Val Clemens at: val.clemens@xtra.co.nz
