Tracplus says the appointment of new chief technology officer Mark Greene adds capability to drive future wildfire innovation.

The Dunedin-based company was founded in 2007 as a live track and technology and communication business for the aviation and emergency sectors.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the company’s main market was the aviation sector, along with some work in land-based tracking.

The disruption to aviation caused by the pandemic resulted in the company flipping its markets to specialise in land-based tracking, along with some aviation work.

Growth has been driven by new legislation worldwide that has been putting an emphasis on safety in the workplace, including legislation that came out of the Australian royal commission into the 2020 bushfires.

Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Mr Greene said he was excited to help guide the TracPlus team to create innovative solutions that protected both people and the environment and achieve the vision of bringing every firefighter home safe, no matter how demanding their mission.

"The challenges posed by climate change and its impact on wildfires have created an urgent need for innovative solutions.

"I’m looking forward to leveraging my experience to develop technologies that not only increase the safety of wildland firefighting, but also contribute to the overall effectiveness of wildfire prevention and mitigation efforts," he said.
