In a bid to tap into the lucrative tourism and corporate markets, a Dunedin company is offering luxury car rentals for the more discerning traveller.

Neil Anderson, who owns a luxury chauffeur and limousine companies, has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars on European vehicles in his new venture, Executive Cars Rentals.

The business was designed for those wanting a different class of rental car, and included optional extras such as GPS guided tours throughout the South Island.

Mr Anderson said he had researched the British, Australian, and the cruise-ship markets and believed there was sufficient demand for a Dunedin-based luxury rental car company, which also has agents in Christchurch and Queenstown.

Corporate clients and wedding parties had also expressed interest in renting vehicles, and so he has secured a fleet of seven vehicles ranging from BMW 3 series to a Mercedes S280L.

Mr Anderson said he was also hoping to make a 1973 Rolls Royce Corniche available, and planned to add more 4WDs and sports cars to the fleet.

"I just want to offer something a bit different, that has that element of luxury."
