Spark customer service hub for Westport

Spark is setting up a new customer service hub in Westport.

The hub, to be based at EPIC Westport, is the result of discussions between Buller Mayor Garry Howard and Spark's head of South Island, Paul Deavoll.

It is scheduled to begin on August 1 and employ four people at first.

Spark said many promising candidates had already applied.

"Those recruited will be part of Spark's 'Agents at Home' programme, which encompasses a pool of Spark staff who work from more remote, regional areas across the country, or from home.

"These customer service agents carry out their jobs and engage with the wider company using Spark's technology and network, rather than face-to-face."

The new recruits would be trained on-site, in Westport, Spark said.

The agents would initially work 8am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, with a rotational Saturday every four weeks.

Spark has 150 Agents at Home spread from Whangarei to Dunedin, split evenly across both islands with a fair number in and around Christchurch.

Spark said technology enabled corporate roles to exist in smalltown New Zealand.
"Westport is a good example of this."

Mr Howard could not be contacted for comment.
