Mosgiel-based company TracMap has received an innovation award at the Wine Industry Suppliers Australia awards in Adelaide for its vineyard task management system.

TracMap provides GPS technology across the agriculture, search and rescue, utilities and aviation sectors.

Its viticulture system included cloud-based task management, with real-time GPS locational and guidance hardware.

Judges of the Tarac Technologies innovation award noted the system's ease of use for operators and the high level of job reporting data available for vineyard managers.

TracMap chief executive Colin Brown said the company knew the product had ''huge potential'' for winemaking internationally and it was great to see the industry picking up on it so fast. The system was already in use on half of New Zealand's grape harvesters.

Mr Brown established TracMap in 2005, after he identified a gap in the market for an easy-to-use GPS guidance and mapping system, specifically designed for New Zealand conditions. TracMap now exports to nine countries. Australia and the United States are its principal markets.
