Dunedin voters have to wait

The Dunedin City Council has warned people awaiting the outcome of its election they will need to be patient, because results will not be available until some time this evening.

The council, which is using the single transferrable vote (STV) electoral system, will not be releasing progress reports during the count.

Other councils using the STV electoral system, such as Wellington City Council, are following the same practice.

About 1065 votes were hand-delivered to the council today, and are being transported to the council's vote processing contractor in Christchurch.
