The actress, who played Marie Barone in the hit series, was 90 years old and died in Los Angeles, according to TMZ.
Roberts won five Emmy awards during her career, of which four were for hit sitcom 'Everybody Loves Raymond'. Her other roles included TV shows like, 'St Elsewhere' and 'The Middle', and movies, such as 'Grandma's Boy' and 'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation'.
In 2005 she wrote bestseller, 'Are You Hungry, Dear? Life, Laughs and Lasagna'.
When asked about why audiences seem to love her, Roberts told Parade magazine:
"I'm not a bull artist. I tell it like it is. I'm not some celebrity thinking, 'I'm greater than anybody else.' I'm one of the people.
And they know that. It's wonderful when they say to me, 'Thank you for the humour you've brought us all these years'. I am a lucky son of a gun. I get paid for it."
Stars of 'Everybody Loves Raymond' have already started sharing condolences for their former co-star.
Actress Patricia Heaton posted a touching tweet, describing Roberts as "funny and tough", as woman who "loved life, living it to the fullest".
