CD reviews: The Chainsmokers

Despite its title, there’s nothing remotely memorable about the debut album from former Syracuse University EDM brats The Chainsmokers, whose quest for safe commercialism is only bettered by their penchant for dissemination.

Last year they enjoyed the megahit, Closer (it was No1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks), yet neither track appears on Memories. A shame, really, as any repetition would’ve been better than these dozen songs which, instead of lurching towards a grave, seem to have wandered out of one. It’s a bunch of brain-dead zombies on the loose. Lock the doors. Do not open.

• The Chainsmokers. Memories ... Do Not Open. Sony Music.

• One stars (out of five)
