Allan’s Sheetmetal & Engineering: A renowned provider of metal work services

In less than quarter of a century, Dunedin's Allan’s Sheetmetal & Engineering Services Ltd has become a major metalworking enterprise.

Founded in May 2000 by Allan Whitfield, Allan’s Sheetmetal & Engineering Services Ltd now has 29 Dunedin staff.

The company has earned the status of an indispensable part of New Zealand’s metal fabrication and engineering industry. It also has 15 staff at its Christchurch branch, Allan’s Superheat.

‘‘Each member of our team brings a wealth of experience and expertise, ensuring that we deliver top-notch services to our clients,’’ Allan says. ‘‘We have expanded our footprint from a modest local business to a renowned provider of comprehensive metal work solutions.’’

Its products and services include hot water cylinders for commercial, domestic, and dairy farming uses; flue components; architectural metalwork; domestic and commercial stainless steel benches; CNC press brake, guillotine, double-bend folding, laser cutting, turret punching, and plate rolling; handrails and balustrades; meter boxes; long-run corrugated and five-rib roofing iron, flashings, and all roofing accessories; spouting and downpipes; rainwater heads; chimney caps; Christies glasshouses and sheds and Edenlite glasshouses; and fireplace wetbacks.

‘‘Our operations are supported by state-of-the-art equipment and a team of highly skilled engineers,’’ Allan says. ‘‘We excel in delivering bespoke metalwork solutions tailored to our customers’ needs.’’

Those customers vary from individuals to large companies and organisations. Among its completed projects are the architectural metalwork for Dunedin’s new ACC building, copper restoration at the Dunedin Railway Station, and the national signage rollout when Shell service stations changed to Z.

‘‘Our partnerships with reputable suppliers ensure that we use only the highest-quality materials in our projects,’’ Allan says. ‘‘Notably, we are an authorised supplier of COLORSTEEL® products from New ZealandSteel, which allows us to offer premium roofing and cladding solutions, ensuring the highest standards of quality and durability.’’

The team constantly updates its training, practices, and machinery. Allan’s Sheetmetal & Engineering Services Ltd are committed to excellence, integrity, and customer satisfaction. Their values guide every aspect of the operations, from the initial consultation to the final installation.

‘‘We are also keen to develop and mentor the next generation of light fabrication engineers locally, so if any keen young people are interested in a new career, please contact us,” Allan says.
