It's pumpkin time, and there's a new variety available this year, the small butterkin, shaped like a small pumpkin but with flesh the colour of butternut.
They have a thinner skin than some pumpkins so can be peeled with a vegetable peeler, and being about 1kg, they are easier to cut than the big grey-skinned varieties, but can be used in all the same ways, for soup, roasted, mashed, and so on.
A whole butterkin is a good size for a small household too.
