Many enthusiasts will be heading to Auckland for a food and wine celebration on September 14 and 15, with further classes and workshops on September 16 and 22.
Organised by Celia Hay, of the Auckland-based New Zealand School of Food and Wine, it includes the New Zealand Sommelier of the Year competition with the prize including a return trip to Paris, visit to Champagne producer Louis Roederer and a chance to explore other wine regions of France.
Presenters include Tim Hanni, master or wine, from the United States, who will get you to taste your way around his ''Vinotype'' concept that helps explain about people's different sensitivity to taste and what foods and wines make you happy.
Juliet Harbutt, an international authority on cheese, will be running several seminars on the great cheeses of the world and explains, through tasting of specific international cheeses, the most important cheese categories.
She will also teach the five-day NZSFW certificate in cheese for the true cheese lover who wants to discover the fascinating detail of the most important international cheeses.
There will also be the opportunity to make your own cheese.
On Monday, September 22, Ms Harbutt will present a one-day seminar on understanding charcuterie, the art of preserving food to be enjoyed at your leisure in the future.
Other classes cover smoking food, bread-making, tasting olive oil, honey and, of course, wine from New Zealand, France and elsewhere.
There are dinners with matched wine.
