The run-up to Christmas can be such a busy time that I sometimes think we forget to enjoy those moments of catching up with friends and family.

In this special edition of Christmas Fresh, our columnists have provided plenty of inspiration for those get-togethers from casual drinks parties to the big day itself.

Alison Lambert gets creative with the idea of an olive wreath and a dessert which covers all the bases if you have people with food intolerances or allergies coming for dinner.

Simon Gault’s latest book is targeted at summer days at the beach and crib and has plenty of inspiration for the Christmas table.

He will also tell you what not to serve for a festive meal no matter how much you love your new pizza oven.

To complement these dishes wine writer Mark Henderson has selected a few bubbles worth trying and cocktail guru Fiona McLaren has taken an East meets West theme for her Christmas tipples.

The key to stress-free gatherings I believe is planning, keeping it simple and making as much ahead of time as possible. Also delegate - don’t be afraid to ask people to bring a dish or hand around serving plates.

At the end of the day all everyone wants is to have a good time, relax and enjoy.

Happy holidays everyone.
