The action at a charity boxing event spilled out into the crowd when members of a Dunedin gang spotted out-of-town rivals from across the ring.
Police were called to the "Punch with Purpose" event held in the Dunedin Town Hall on Saturday after reports of fighting between Mongrel Mob and out-of-town Tribesman associates attending the event, Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman said.
All warring factions were kicked out of the event by security, however, the disagreement quickly spread to the street.
Outside in the Octagon, the two groups then started to argue about who had gotten kicked out, and who had not.
The disagreement again ended in a fight.
The two groups were then dispersed by police and there were no further issues, Snr Sgt Notman said.
Later at 3.30am on Sunday, two men were arrested after a sparring match turned serious.
The pair were outside the Night 'n Day in the Octagon when they agreed to a "gentleman’s rules" sparring match — they agreed on no head shots.
It quickly turned into a "full-blown fight", Snr Sgt Notman said.
Police came and split up the fight and both men were arrested.
However, as this was happening, one of the men’s girlfriends then tried to intervene and stop the arrest by pushing through police to her boyfriend.
She was subsequently pepper sprayed.
The girlfriend was arrested as well and charged with assaulting police.
She would appear in Dunedin District Court at a later date.
