For a lot of us this summer has not been ideal, but for the roses and many other plants growing conditions have been favourable.

Sunshine in small bursts, lower temperatures on average and rain at reasonable intervals has contributed to ideal growing conditions for roses.

The modern roses have produced plenty of new canes coming away from the base, which is always a bonus at pruning time, this allows us to prune to these new canes and remove the older ones.

The number of flowers along with all the new buds heading into autumn means a longer flowering season.

Some of the earlier flowering climbers, hybrid musk and rugosa roses are developing hips that are colouring up nicely.

Even the foliage on some roses has hints of autumn colour.

Now is a good time to stroll through the rose garden and enjoy the late season display.

The following floribunda roses are looking good with plenty of new flower buds to open.

Rosa ‘My Mum’, a beautiful rose extremely healthy with a nice growth habit.

The colour is a blend of coral, apricot, and pink blooms in abundance with a light fragrance. Bob Matthews of New Zealand bred this rose and named it for his mum. A lovely rose for picking as it lasts well in a vase.

Rosa ‘Pure & Simple’, a lovely floribunda with blush pink flowers on top of some very tall canes above glossy dark Rosa ‘Berry Nice’ has blooms of berry-magenta shade that cover the bushy, compact growing plant.

Very quick to repeat so will provide a great display of colour in the garden.

The glossy green foliage is super healthy.
