Ex-MasterChef contestant wins prestigious award

Former MasterChef contestant Kylie Millar has claimed one of the Australia's most prestigious awards for young chefs.

Working in the pastry and sauce section at award-winning Melbourne restaurant Attica, Millar has been named the Good Food Guide's Josephine Pignolet young chef of the year.

Awarded to the brightest chef in the country aged under 30, past winners include MasterChef judge George Calombaris (2004) and Lauren Eldridge (2016).
Previously awarded by state, Millar, a former physiotherapy student, is the first national winner.

She finished sixth in the 2012 season of MasterChef and has since worked at dessert hotspot Burch & Purchese and famed Spanish restaurant Mugaritz.

The award is named for Josephine Pignolet, a former chef and wife of acclaimed chef Damien Pignolet, who was killed in a car crash in 1987.
