Where are they now?

 

MORGAN HARRIS

2012: Harris had won the junior male Contact Epic 95km Endurance Mountain Bike Challenge, represented Otago in hockey and was involved in a wide range of school activities. He planned to study engineering.

 

 

 

 

2022: Harris lives in Wellington and is a structural engineer specialising in civil infrastructure, bridges and seismic design. As part of his work, he has designed bridge repairs following the Kaikoura earthquakes, designed and supervised the construction of pedestrian and cycleways throughout New Zealand, designed cargo wharves in Vanuatu and replaced ageing infrastructure in Fiji. He has also developed mobile phone applications and tools to analyse data with the goal of making construction smarter. He is still regularly found outdoors, enjoying mountain biking and hiking, plays social sports and is a senior member of the Wellington Emergency Response Team.

 

LARISSA HINDS

2012: Hinds had won several speech competitions and represented New Zealand at a youth human rights conference in Paris. She planned to study law, politics, philosophy, economics and French at university before looking for work in the area of foreign affairs.

 

 

 

2022: 

With a law degree, a science degree and a diploma of language to her name, Hinds is now completing her masters at the University of Otago. Justice, inclusion and sustainability are still important to her and in recent years, she has worked and volunteered in community development and harm prevention. She also exhibited alongside others in the Putahitanga project, which showed in Otautahi/Christchurch and at Te Ngakau Civic Square in Wellington.
