The runt of a litter has become a big celebrity in Mosgiel.
When a family brought the piglet to their Mure St home it was the size of their Jack Russell dog.
Michelle O'Malley-Scott said the family had no idea how big it would grow.
Now Pigeon, a 2-year-old British saddleback and Hampshire-cross swine, had a 150cm girth and weighed more than 200kg.
''She'd be as heavy as a small pony,'' Mrs O'Malley-Scott said.
Pigeon had become a celebrity and people often knocked on the door asking to see the pig. Others clambered across the front garden to peer into the pen.
The family often heard school pupils calling to their mates, ''Come and look at this humongous pig''.
A neighbour complemented Pigeon's diet of nuts and food scraps with fresh baking.
''She didn't have any bread to give her, so gave her some scones,'' she said.
The family dogs - Jack Russell Tito and Chihuahua-cross Rosco - used to sleep at night with Pigeon until the family feared one of the dogs could be mistaken for food.
However, the trio still shared daylight hours together.
''Every opportunity, they get in there and play. Pigeon loves it.
''The dogs lick her eyes, clean her all up and have her looking beautiful,'' Mrs O'Malley-Scott said.
The family expected Pigeon to live for about 12 years and despite her size would remain a family pet.
The family regularly declined offers from people offering to give the pig a new home on Otago farms.
''We are not keen to let her go yet,'' Mrs O'Malley-Scott said.
